I live on a small farm on the South coast of NSW and spend much of my day working outside in the garden, with my digital camera close at hand. This enables me to capture ephemeral beauty I observe around me - the ambiguity of light and shade, the complexity and layering of reflections, and the patterns of shadow shapes.
Until recently I expressed my creativity through painting. After purchasing a good camera I realized that photography was a more appropriate medium for conveying my view of the world as a visual artist. With a solid grounding in the practice and principles of two dimensional art, an eye for detail and a strong sense of design I found the transition to photography a natural one
I do not manipulate my images because I seek to capture natural beauty, not airbrushed perfection. I want the viewer to wonder at the pattern of a leaf or the shadow of a fly, as I did when I captured that image; to observe their surroundings more carefully and learn to see the extraordinary beauty in ordinary things.
