The classical vessel has always been a constant for me. Influences are from the historic to the contemporary.
Through the layering of surface, I am referencing antiquity, rich with historic footprints and knowledge acquired through life events.
I want my work to have a beauty that needs no dialogue. I want the viewer to experience the balance, proportion - unity or harmony of each work.
The work is wheel thrown and then manipulated by hand so the inherent plastic quality of the clay is obvious. Surface is built up with layers of clay textures, which are enhanced by slips, oxide washes and finally a dry glaze application with up to three firings.
