Domestic pottery exists in that space between the act of making and the act of use. My work talks about the theatre of making - the resistance of porcelain to complete control, the struggle to coax form from mass, the frisson of danger in the near collapse. It provides vicarious pleasure for the user imagining these private acts of making. My work also talks about the theatre of use - it provides the voyeur in me with pleasure as I speculate on how the work is ‘remade’ in other places, other lives, other plays. Recent interests have been in exploring the potential of decoration in defining what might be considered a ‘set’- both as a set of usable things, and as a mathematical description of commonality.
