Tania Rollond
At the heart of my ceramic practice is the dialogue between the shape of an object and its surface; the three-dimensional form I construct and the hand drawn marks which I wrap around the pot. It may be a dialogue of harmony or discord, of interaction or reaction, or the challenge of uniting the disparate elements that activates my drawing journey over the surface of each piece. I draw from memory, building up images that link fragments of one place, object or observation, with thoughts or images from other times. They come together in a composition that responds directly to the ceramic form, in a process which moves between conscious decision and unconscious compulsion, plan and play.
